PORTLAND INN PROJECT, HANLEY, STOKE-ON-TRENT
project ongoing. community engagement in collabouration with Akiko Kobayashi, to develop, design and make furniture installations for a new community space

The Portland Inn Project CIC is a creative arts project within an underrepresented neighbourhood of Stoke-on-Trent. They currently run a wide range of all-age, artist driven community projects from their shipping container space, The Pippin, and are in the process of converting the abandoned Portland Inn pub into a new community space with architects Studio Seventi.

Through a series of community workshops together with PIP and Akiko Kobayashi, we are developing designs for furniture and storage in the new Portland Inn. By engaging the community in this process, we hope that their ideas and needs will be invested in the final pieces. Making workshops as part of the fabrication process will build skills and give ownership and authorship to community members.
